More stuff from the TV time tunnel, this time from 1989 and 1990. We begin with a 1989 commercial for CFMO, an FM radio station in Ottawa, Canada. That is followed by a cheesy 1990 ad for a cheesy compilation album from Quality Records. After surviving that, we move on to a 1990 spot for The Brick. Note the state-of-the-art electronic equipment. That is followed by a brief TV billboard explaining that MacLean Hunter cable is not presently broadcasting on this channel. We then end up on CFCF television in Montreal, Quebec. The first ad is a compilation of their 1990 programming, followed by the intro to their late movie, which that night was High Noon. Finally, we sign off with the CBC Ottawa crew, who walk us through their 1990 programming, followed by the CBC sign off, and...

As someone who grew up watching You Can't Do That On Television (which was taped right here in Ottawa at CJOH) this was one of the highlights of the con for me. Christine (Moose) McGlade, Doug Ptolemy, Stephanie Bauder, Justin Cammy and Abby Hagyard all talked about the show and answered questions from the audience. The Ottawa Citizen is Ottawa's premier newspaper. A print driven ad campaign created by a local agency kicked off the theme of the commercial. Our role was to create a video sequence that would compliment the print campaign and provide a payoff at the end.

Take a trip back to April of 1989, as we channel surf through the 29 channels that were available on cable in Ottawa at that time. We start at channel 2 (TVO), progress to 3 (Global), then 4 (PBS), 5 (not broadcasting), 6 (CHRO), 7 (CJOH), 8 (CBC), 9 (NBC), 10 and 11 (French channels from Hull, Quebec), and so on and so on, including the Weather Network, the ever ubiquitous Star Trek re-rerun, before finally ending with Channel 30, which is The Sports Network...the only reason to have cable in the first place. Can you name all the shows, and movies? Apparently it was rather cold in Ottawa that early Sunday morning.
